To handle multiple conditional checks in the **Calculator** step using the `IF` function (or `NVL`/`IF-THEN-ELSE` functions), you need to follow a specific syntax structure depending on whether you are doing simple single-level checks or nested multiple-condition checks.

### 1. Basic Syntax of `IF` in Calculator

The standard `IF` function in the Calculator step takes three arguments:

Plaintext

```auto
IF(A, B, C)
```

- **A (Condition / Boolean):** A field or expression that evaluates to True or False.

- **B (True Value):** The value/field returned if `A` is True.

- **C (False Value):** The value/field returned if `A` is False.

### 2. Handling Multiple Conditions (Nested IF)

Process Studio’s Calculator step supports **nested IF statements** to evaluate multiple conditions sequentially.

#### Example Scenario: Categorizing Order Values

- If `Amount` $\> 1000$ $\rightarrow$ “High”

- If `Amount` $\> 500$ $\rightarrow$ “Medium”

- Otherwise $\rightarrow$ “Low”

#### Step Configuration in Calculator:

Since the Calculator step works on pre-calculated boolean fields or simple step arguments, the cleanest pattern for multiple logic rules is:

1. **Step 1 (Create Boolean flags using prior steps or basic comparisons):**

2. **Step 2 (In Calculator Step):**

### 3. Alternative & Recommended Approach for Complex Multi-Condition Logic

While the Calculator step is lightweight and fast for simple math and basic binary `IF(A, B, C)`, **it can become clunky for multi-condition logic** because it requires intermediate boolean streams.
